A landscape held between two places, shaped by memory, distance and the experience of belonging to more than one homeland.
Between Two Homelands brings together impressions of Jordan and Far North Queensland within one continuous, imagined landscape. Rather than separating the two places, their colours, textures, water, land and fragments of imagery flow into one another.
Birds move through the composition, crossing boundaries that exist for people but not for them. Across the surface, some forms are immediately recognisable while others dissolve into layers of colour and memory, reflecting the way places carried within us can merge over time.
This work became the foundation for my Between Two Homelands series and for an idea that continues to develop throughout my practice: belonging does not always mean choosing between where we came from and where we now live. With time, both can become part of us.
Sometimes belonging is not found between two places, but in learning to carry both.
