Where It All Began
While healing from past trauma, I created a small fish pond with water lilies. It became a quiet refuge, something living, steady, and patient. I felt the urge to paint it, even though I hadn’t held brushes for decades. Not intentionally, anyway.
What came out was a primitive painting. Untrained. Unplanned. But honest.
That painting marked the beginning of my healing through art.
From there, I painted whenever the urge appeared. Not with intention or outcome in mind , only response. My home slowly filled with images. It felt like a private museum, though I never thought of it that way at the time.
Later, when I took an acrylic masterclass and learned the basics, I returned to those early works, reworking many of them, while leaving the original marks visible. I needed them there. They are part of the story.
When I look across my collections now, I still find comfort in painting. And I feel ready to share this journey with others.
Life brings challenges. Art can offer a safe place to sit with them.
That is what this work has been for me.
