Between Flights

Waiting for my next flight in Jordan, I found myself with a little unexpected time, a sketchbook, and a new set of water-soluble oil pastels. I've never worked with pastels before, but I was curious to see what would happen if I stepped away from my usual paints and simply responded to a place that continues to inspire me. Without planning it, Petra appeared once again.

The sketch isn't about accuracy or detail. It's about memory. The soft, dusty marks of the pastel seemed perfectly suited to capturing the feeling of ancient stone, worn pathways, and the way certain places stay with us long after we leave. It's a reminder that creativity doesn't always happen in the studio. Sometimes it happens in airport lounges, between destinations, carrying only a sketchbook and a memory.

Perhaps some landscapes never really leave us.
